Marija Arsenkova: Öcalan and the PKK did the right thing, now it's Turkey's turn 2025-06-19 09:07:46 NEWS CENTRE – Commenting on Abdullah Öcalan's call as ‘the loudest voice of truth and reason’ Marija Arsenkova, spokesperson for the Macedonian Jin Jiyan Azadi Initiative, said: "Ocalan did the right thing, the PKK did the right thing, and now it's the Turkish state's turn." Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's "Call for Peace and a Democratic Society" and the PKK's decision to disarm and disband in response to the call continue to have a positive impact around the world. Speaking to Erem Kansoy at Medya Haber TV, Marija Arsenkova, spokesperson for the Macedonian Jin Jiyan Azadi (Woman, life, freedom) Initiative, commented on Abdullah Öcalan's call, saying, "In a world that is gearing up for a nuclear war, Ocalan's call for peace is the loudest voice of truth and reason."    Marija Arsenkova said that the call made to Abdullah Öcalan proved that states were unable to intervene in the crisis of capitalism, pointing to the call made by MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli and saying, "For me, hearing the words of Mr Bahceli and recognising the opportunity that they show is a sign of great wisdom, which is why everyone should heed the call for peace by Abdullah Ocalan."    'WE MUST SPREAD ÖCALAN'S MESSAGE'   Marija Arsenkova said that she saw the PKK's decision to disband as "a huge step towards a peaceful future," adding, "It's a new paradigm shift, actually, within the Kurdish liberation movement, as well as the revolutionary struggle worldwide. So as supporters of the Kurdish liberation movement, but also as militants in various revolutionary struggles in our local contexts, we must heed this call, we must spread the message, Ocalan's message, and give it its true meaning, because some might call it a capitulation, a loss of the war, but we should really give it its true meaning."    Marija Arsenkova stated that she had begun reading Abdullah Öcalan's perspective conveyed to the 12th Congress of the PKK and said that every sentence and word of the perspective should be read carefully.    "What I see is that this letter offers a glimpse into the future, not only related to the Kurdish identity and the Kurdish movement and Kurdistan, but also for the world, and it's also not only a political or social analysis, but it's even, I would say, broader than metaphysical. So it's like Ocalan, with all of his knowledge and all of his experience, practice, and resistance for the past 25 years, he has managed to offer us a theory of everything, a theory of the new social political reality that is beginning to unfold in this 21st century," she said.     'ÖCALAN'S LEADERSHIP BROUGHT WOMEN TO THIS POINT'   Expressing that a new era has begun under the leadership of women, Marija Arsenkova said, "Because women autonomous organizing is what opens the way for dealing with truth and reality the way it's meant to be dealt without hiding behind empty promises and empty words and different concepts that liberalism has created to kind of hide and refine its oppression. So now women are seeing through that and by discussing with each other, by organizing with each other, they are more certain, more sure of themselves than ever, and they are taking these steps forward. So I think this is why Abdullah Ocalan and his leadership for the past 25 years has brought us to this point, but now for us to continue down this road of peace, toward peace, he needs to be liberated."   'NOW IT IS THE TURKISH STATE'S TURN'   Marija Arsenkova, emphasising that Abdullah Öcalan should be among his people, made the following call to Turkey: "Abdullah Ocalan did what he was supposed to do, the PKK did what they were supposed to do, and now it's up to the Turkish states to fulfill its promise. I call on the Turkish state to immediately act upon the agreement made with the Kurdish society and the PKK, and to proceed in the right direction towards peace. Mr. Ocalan did the right thing, the PKK did the right thing, and now it's the Turkish state's turn. And I would also like to salute Mr. Abdullah Ocalan for everything he has done for illuminating us and liberating us from the dangers and horrors of capitalism."
