The DEM Party’s İmralı Delegation left Parliament for a meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The delegation spoke to reporters outside the parliamentary complex before setting off for the meeting.

 

‘THE PROCESS NEEDS TO MOVE FORWARD QUICKLY’

 

Speaking to reporters, Pervin Buldan said: “We will have another meeting with the president today. We will come together to discuss certain issues immediately after the law is passed. We have several points, which we will try to set out in a written statement. Of course, all of the expectations arising from what has happened and everything that needs to happen will be among these points. Talks have been held at every stage of the process, but we have now moved to another stage. We want to underline that this meeting is important following the law’s passage in parliament. The process needs to move forward quickly. We do not want the process to be drawn out. I think we should not allow such a thing to happen. We believe progress needs to be made. Hopefully, we will reach a result as soon as possible.”

 

‘WE WILL CONVEY OUR IDEAS AND PROPOSALS’

 

Sancar, who spoke afterwards, said that peace is a difficult path, and continued:  “The law of peace also provides the ground for walking this path in a healthy way. The law adopted by the Parliament with a historic consensus has become a cornerstone of the legal framework for peace. The legal framework for peace needs other elements as well. The first important step needs to be implemented. We will exchange views on the implementation stage and on how this step will be implemented. We have ideas and proposals, and we will convey them. We will also share our ideas on what kind of roadmap should be formed for the other elements of the legal framework for peace.”

 

‘THE PROCESS NEEDS TO BE COMPLETED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE’

 

Answering a question about the implementation of the law, Sancar said: “We believe the bodies provided for under the law need to be established. The law also contains the key elements for institutionalizing the process. These too need to be put into operation quickly. The first step towards advancing the process on an institutional and legal footing is the establishment of these bodies. This will take place once the National Security Council (MGK) adopts its decision and that decision is published in the Official Gazette. We are saying that this process needs to be completed as soon as possible, and we will also discuss this matter with the president.”

 

‘WE NEED TO MEET WITH ABDULLAH ÖCALAN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE’

 

Asked by reporters whether they would go to İmralı Island, Pervin Buldan said: “A visit to İmralı will be also planned. We are planning to go to the island as soon as possible. Following our meeting with the president, we need to meet with Mr. Öcalan as soon as possible. Perhaps afterwards, we can meet the our Parliament Speaker, Numan. There is also a need for a monitoring body at this stage. We could hold a meeting to discuss the establishment of a monitoring body in Parliament. Our regular meetings with the political parties will continue, nothing has been scheduled. There is strong public expectation that the Constitutional Court and ECtHR rulings be implemented without waiting for the National Security Council’s decision. We will want to see these rulings put into effect. This remains an important matter before us. Administrative and legal arrangements are needed. Even if Parliament goes into recess, Parliament Speaker can establish the monitoring body if he wishes.”
