MARDİN - Mardin Bar announced that three woman prisoners in Mardin Prison ended their hunger strike as the prison management made a commitment to accept their demands.

 

The members of the Comission of Human Rights and Prison of Mardin Bar announced in a written statement they published after they visit Ronahi Sırdaş, one of the three women prisoners, who declared a hunger striker against the violations of rights in Mardin Type E Closed Prison. In the statement it was announced that three woman prisoners, Ronahi Sırdaş, Elif Deniz and Melek Evren ended their hunger strike as the prison management made a commitment to accept their demands. 

 

ABUSE DURING BODY SEARCH

 

In the statement following information was shared: "Ronahi Sırdaş stated that the prison administration they began their hunger strike as a protest against certain disciplinary applications in the prison. According to the statements of Ronahi Sırdaş during our visit, they were imposed to go down in the ventilation area for a roll-call by the administration each time even though  their total population in the cell for last couple of months was quite low and the guards could easily count them already in their cell.  Sırdaş also shared that the body search was conducted “in a manner of harassment and provocation” and that they faced disciplinary penalties if they opposed to this." 

 

Lawyer also recoreded that 20 investigations were filed against Sırdaş.

 

323 DAYS OF CELL CONFINEMENT FOR 3 PRISONERS

 

During the lawyer visit, Sırdaş shared the information that Melek Evren and Elif Deniz had been sentenced to 150 days of cell confinement as a disciplinary punishment so far, and that she had been subjected to 23 days of cell punishment as all her lawyer and family visits were banned for 4 years. Sharing that the prison officials promised to normalise the counting procedures of the guardians on June 26, Sırdaş informed the lawyers that they ended the hunger strike by June 26.
