Demand for justice for the Kurdish journalist Aziz Oruç

İSTANBUL - Family of Aziz Oruç demaded justice for the imprisoned journalist Aziz Oruç on the "Justice Watch" which has been held every week in front of the İstanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan in solidarity with the people who demand justice.
 
Speaking on the "Justice Watch" protest, Hülya Oruç, the wife of Aziz Oruç who came to protest together with her two kids, said, "Aziz is a journalist, the accusations he is charged are too heavy." People supporting the justice watch chanted, "We want justice for Aziz Oruç". 
 
'MY KIDS SHOULD GROW WITH THEIR FATHER'
 
"I want my kids to grow with their father," said Hülya Oruç and demanded the release of Aziz Oruç calling for public support.
 
Speaking on behalf of Assembly of Resistances, Nuriye Gülmen said, "Journalism is not a crime, but torture is. We will keep on struggle until those who tortured Aziz Oruç will face trial and Oruç will be released."
 
After the speeches a "Justice Watch" was held.
 
The first hearing of the trial of Aziz Oruç  will be held at the Ağrı 2nd High Criminal Court on July 21.
 
WHAT HAPPENED? 
 
Kurdish Journalist Aziz Oruç, a reporter for the Dicle News Agency (DİHA) closed by a Statutory Decree, had been living in Iraq for the past three years due to the legal pressures he faced in Turkey. 
 
Leaving for Iran to reach Europe through Armenia, he was detained at Armenia border gate and then handed over to the soldiers of Iran. In Iran, Oruç was forced to cross the border to Turkey through the wire fence on Turkey-Iran border on December 11 as he was exposed to pyhsical torture. 
 
Oruç was arrested and sent to Patnos Type L Closed Prison in Turkey's eastern province of Ağrı on December 18, 2019.
