HDP: We will keep on struggle against the enemies of the people's will

ANKARA - While a trustee has been appointed in place of HDP’s detained Ağrı Diyadin Co-Mayor Betül Yaşar, HDP shared a statement declaring, "We will continue to raise a strong struggle in all areas until we end the coup of the government which appoints 'civil servants' for the places of the elected people chosen by the people's will."

Following the detention of HDP’s Diyadin Co-Mayor Betül Yaşar during a raid in her home Diyaidn town hall has been blockaded by the police and the government appointed a trustee in Diyadin Municipality in place of the HDP co-mayor. In the last local elections on March 31, 2019, the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) won 65 municipalities across Turkey. Three of these 65 municipalities were metropolitan municipalities, five of them were provincial, 45 were district and 12 were town municipalities. While trustees have been appointed to 47 of these municipalities, the certificates of elections of six elected mayors were not given as a Statutory Decree had discharged them from public service.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Democratic Local Administrations Board co-spokespeople Hediye Karaaslan and Salim Kaplan shared a statement titled as "We will keep on struggle against the enemies of the people's will" regarding the trustee appointed to Diyadin Municipality. In the statement it was reminded that Diyadin Municipality was won by HDP with 56,82 percent on the elections of March 31, 2019.

Reminding the previous attack on Diyadin Municipality on July 2019, Karaaslan and Kaplan said, "After a year they blockaded our Diyadin Municipality early in the morning, its doors were broken by the forces of fascism and our co-chair was detained. This attack aims at democratic, participative municipality understanding as well as the women's participation and work. It was just the last week when our women's bazaar project was launched in Diyadin, a women's rest home was opened recently and the construction of women solidarity center was launched. Fascistic government showed one more time that they are the enemies of women and labor and they do not recognize the right to vote and to stand for election of the people of Diyadin.

THEY ARE SO WEAK TO BREAK THE DOORS

This regime has decreased to such a level that they are so weak to break the doors of a municipality. You can not subdue people's will by breaking the doors. The people of the country and the world, as well as the people of Diyadin, are well aware of the difference between our co-mayors, who were elected by the high democratic favor of the people, and the fascist understanding that tries to seize people's will by breaking the doors like bandits. Everybody knows that the usurper understanding consists of bribery and corruption.

Your racist understanding based on pillaging cannot stand the idea that the local people govern the municipalities. Blockading the municipalities with iron barriers and barbed wires will not do anything other than proving that you are a regime of robbery, you are a regime of corruption and bribery.

Anyone who respects for the democracy, the law, the ballot box, and the will of the people should raise their voice against this crime against humanity. "We will continue to raise a strong struggle in all areas until we end the coup of the government which appoints 'civil servants' for the places of the elected people chosen by the people's will."
