ŞIRNAK - Stating that the increase in abuse cases can not be handled independently from the judicial decisions and the policies of the current government, Şırnak Bar Association Women and Children Rights Commission Att. Zozan Açar drew attention to 'impunity' policies.

While the discussion on the abuse of a child by a specialized sergeant in Şırnak continues, it turned out that similar cases was experienced in other cities. Şırnak Bar Association Women and Children Rights Commission Att. Zozan Açar evaluated the protests pf the people against child molestation. Açar pointed out that the increase in these abuse cases is directly linked to judicial decisions.

Açar said: "The perpetrator or perpetrators calculate that the judicial mechanism will not respect the statements of the victim child due to their position and power. The victims can remain silent most of the time because they know that the perpetrator will be protected."  Noting that there were not enough reactions to the three abuse cases in the city recently, Açar underlined the importance of the impunity policies of the government.  Stating that the perpetrators' not being punished creates a perception in the society that they will also not be punished if they had done the same, Açar said that the perpetrators thinks that they will be released in a short time from prison even if they were sentenced to prison.

VIOLENCE AND ABUSE ARE POLITICAL

Stating that the violence against women and children is politic, Açar emphasized that the cases of violence and abuse can not be handled independently from the current policies of the government. The perpetrator's protection situation, which occurs in each incident, provides the ground for the occurrence of new cases. This cycle continues as the perpetrator knows that he will not be punished and isolated from society in this political and judicial system. When the perpetrator becomes a public official, the judicial bodies and the press protects the perpetrator. As a matter of fact, although the investigation continued in the speacialized seargent case, all segments of the society favoured the perpetrator because he was a public official who claimed that he was slandered."

EFFORT NEEDED TO CHANGE THE SYSTEM

Stating that an effort should be made in order to change the system, Açar emphasized that the discussions on withdrawing from İstanbul Agreement should be abandoned immediately.

Stating that they will be the followers of the recent abuse cases as a commission, Açar said that the bar associations will support the families and children who are abused with the support of associations and NGOs that protect women's and children's rights. Açar emphasized that they will be the followers of the incidents so that no sexual abuse incidents remain in the dark.
