ANKARA - In a statement about the death of lawyer Ebru Timtik on the 238th day of her death fast, HDP MYK said: "We make an urgent call to the government; we won’t tolerate another death. Aytaç Ünsal should be released immediately."

 

In a written statement, the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Central Executive Board (MYK) said: "We have learned with great sadness that Ebru Timtik, one of the jailed lawyers on death fast, has died. After Helin Bölek, Ibrahim Gökçek and Mustafa Koçak, Ebru Timtik also died as a result of the AKP government's death policy.

 

The AKP government, which was the cause of Ebru Timtik's death, ruthlessly took away the right to life and justice of a young female lawyer crying out for justice."

 

The statement added: "We repeatedly shouted that we were at a stage where seconds, not hours, were critical for Ebru and Aytaç to survive. Ebru, who went on death fast for the right to a fair trial, was the voice of justice for millions. Ebru did not demand privileges, but the right to a fair trial that all citizens should have. This death, which occurred as a result of the indifference of the government, will go down in history as an exemplary document of the dying justice in this country."

 

The statement continued: "We make an urgent call to the government: We won’t tolerate another death. Aytaç Ünsal must be released immediately, his right to a fair trial must be granted, and he must be treated in a full-equipped hospital. We also call on the people. We must keep Aytaç alive together. Aytaç Ünsal's life should not be left to the mercy of the government and more sensitivity should be shown."

 

The HDP ended its statement with this words: "We feel the sorrow of losing Ebru Timtik, and extend our condolences to her family, friends, colleagues and the People's Law Office. We promise that we will carry the flag of justice waved by Ebru Timtik with great courage with great honour. With the awareness that her demand for justice is the common demand of the whole society, we will continue the struggle for law and justice together."
