İSTANBUL - Stating that the war hasn't stopped for a minute in Efrîn, Girê Spî and Serêkanîyê which Turkey invaded with the paramilitary forces, Journalist Ekrem Berekat said crimes against humanity are being committed in the region.

While the civil war in Syria continues in its 9th year, the efforts of the Northern and Eastern Syrian Autonomous Administration, where the peoples have established their own systems, to solve both the domestic and the entire country's problems continue. Living in the region, and following the developments closely, Journalist Ekrem Berekat spoke to our agency.

THE SYRIAN REGIME HAS NOT TAKEN STEPS FOR DIALOGUE

Stating that the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) has been making efforts to solve the problems in Syria with democratic forces since the day it was founded, Berekat stated that alliances covering different segments of the society have been developed in this context. Noting that the protocol signed with the Syrian People's Will Party in Russia for the solution of the problems was welcomed by the public, Berekat said that everyone who reads the protocol stated that the items included in the protocol are the most appropriate conditions for the solution of Syria's problems.

Berekat, pointing out that the protocol is an important step to protect the territorial unity of Syria and solve the crisis it is in, said: "There is not one single racist or authoritarian  article in the text. At the same time, all segments are called for help in solving Syria's problems. On the other hand, it was important for it to be signed in Russia, which means that important steps have been taken in the field of diplomacy. So much that Russia interpreted these steps positively. Unfortunately, despite this protocol, the Syrian regime did not take a step. There were also efforts to reestablish the dialogue. However, considering the statements made so far, the Syrian administration is still approaching the issue in a fascist and authoritarian way."

MSD CALLS FOR A GRAND MEETING

Noting that MSD is carrying out a new strategy in the field of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Berekat said that large-scale meetings were held with the people of the region, speaking about how different segments outside the administration would be included in the autonomous administration, what kind of deficiencies the autonomous administration experienced and how these deficiencies would be eliminated. Berekat stated that issues such as how to achieve a structure to represent the region were discussed. Berekat shared the information that two meetings were held in Hesekê and one meeting in Manbij within this scope and that these meetings will continue in Kobanê and Cizîrê regions in the upcoming days.

WE MUST WORK FOR A STATUS FOR THE KURDS

Stating that meetings have been held between PYNK and ENSK for about 8 months within the framework of national unity and 10 meetings were held in this context, Berekat said: "Finally, political consensus was achieved. In this context, it was decided that the Kurdish Supreme Council would be established. Of the 40 members, 16 will be from PYNK and 16 from ENKS. The remaining 4 of the remaining 8 will be selected withing the neutrals by ENKS while the other 4 will be selected by PYNK.

Stating that the work is not proceeding quickly, Berekat said that in the upcoming period, how the autonomous administration will take shape and how ENKS will participate in the management are discussed. Berekat, referring to the high expectations of the people about unity, said: "At the same time, there are heavy attacks against the autonomous administration. These attacks continue throughout Kurdistan. Bigger steps need to be taken. Quick and practical steps are needed. The political situation and alliances in the region are changing day by day. The steps to be taken should also be accordingly. The people now want everyone to set aside their personal party interests and work for the status of the Kurdish people."

CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY IS BEING COMMITTED

Commenting on the report of the United Nations (BM) regarding the violations of rights experienced in the areas invaded by Turkey, Berekat said: "Those in the report only correspond to 10 percent of what happened. The Turkish state and its gangs are waging a very dirty war in Afrin, Girê Spî and Serêkanîyê. This policy is aimed at changing the demography of the region completely. It drives the locals out of the area. Everyone speaks Turkish in this area. Turkish currency is being used. The educational language in schools is Turkish, all the names of the neighborhood were changed and renamed in Turkish. Especially in Efrin. There are daily cases of  rape, massacre, kidnapping in return for ransom, murder, and pillaging of homes. Therefore, the people originally lived here are afraid to come back. There is not one single day civillians are butchered here. They even built a women's prison Efrin. These are all crimes against humanity. When we consider all of these together, the UN's report only corresponds to 10 percent of what's going on in here."

PILLAGING WARS BETWEEN GANGS

Berekat said: "The local people are taking great damage from the pillaging war between the gangs. They fight each other to pillage the property of the people, to steal what they got. There was an explosion the other day. 7 civillians were killed. Many were injured. These are all done by those gangs. The local people are suffering from this. A few days ago they tried to confiscate someone's home. They were killed when they refused to leave their home."

THE WAR NEVER STOPPED

Pointing out to the agreement made between USA and Turkey following the operation against Girê Spî and Serêkanîyê, Berekat said: "SDF withdrew accordingly with the agreement. The war had to stop but it never did. Not for a single day. It'S almost been a year. SDF fulfilled the requirements of the agreement, but Turkey and the gangs backed by Turkey never stopped attacking. The cities are being shelled. Reconnaissance planes fly around. Since the ceasefire was declared, approximately 116 civilians have been martyred, according to some human rights institutions. Many people were injured. Their homes and properties were taken away.People suffered great losses."

POLITICS OVER THE BLOOD OF ARAB

Stating that the fact that Turkey makes paramilitary forces fight in their name in places like Libya and Azerbaijan causes reactions amongs the Arab people, Berekat said: "They say Turkey is doing politics over the blood of our children. There is a public outcry. Syrian peoples have no interest in Libya and Azerbaijan."

THOSE WHO WERE SENT TO WAR: WE WERE DECIEVED

Stating that they have reached many voice records and videos from the paramilitary forces that were sent to Azerbaijan, Berekat said: "They say that they were decieved. They say they were deployed there to protect some police stations but they found themselves in the middle of the war. They want to come back but they can't. They said they were slaughtered."
