HAKKARİ - Hakkari Governorate stated that Şerali Dereli was killed as a result of an intervention 'in accordance with the legislation' in a statement they made 5 days later, and concealed the details. The relatives of Dereli on the other hand, states that Dereli (61) was killed by the soldiers.

A statement was made by the Hakkari Governorate 5 days after the killing of 61 year old Şerali Dereli, who was said to have been killed by soldiers 50 meters away from his house on October 29 in the village of Awyan (Duranlar) in Esendere town of Yüksekova district of Hakkari.

The governorate statement said: "The need to make the following statement arose when some media organs wrote some unfounded news that 'a person was killed in his home by the soldiers' in the Yüksekova district of Hakkari."

The governorate statement said once again that there was an operation being carried out near the border to prevent terrorism and smuggling and the soldiers carrying out the operation 'intervened' a group who did not comply with the stop warning and tried to flee, taking advantage of the darkness 'in accordance with the legislation.' The statement also said that 10 kilograms of metamphetamine was siezed at the scene.

The statement continued: "It was seen that Ş.D who had a record of "production and trade of drugs" has lost his life, and the investigation regarding the issue continues'.

The governorate did not give any details on how Şerali Dereli lost his life.

Sultan Ali Dereli, son of Şerali Dereli said: "My father was 50 meters out of the village. He goes there all the time to get to horses in the stables. He was going there to get the horses in the stables around 18.00 that day. He was raked by the soldiers monstrously, with the horses and the foals. This is horrendous."

Stating that him and his mother tried to go where his father was murdered but stopped by the soldiers, Dereli said: "The Major told that a soldier was wounded. He said, "We came here because our soldier is wounded, no problem". I told them my father was there, taking his horse to the stables. Then I heard the gun shots. I told them 'Tell me if you did anything to my father'. I was hearing people saying 'Stop, calm down, why are you doing this' from a distance. My father was alive at that time. He was being beaten. First the beat him and then they slaughtered him. This is monstrous. Nothing else can be said."
