The hunger strike initiated by the prisoners on November 27, demanding the continued isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan to be lifted and the violations of rights in prisons to end continues. Vedat Beltaş from Tarsus No 1 Type T Closed Prison told about the violations of rights they are exposed to, to his family on the phone.

 

Stating that they continue the hunger strike in groups of two in Tarsus, Bektaş said with the hunger strike, the attitude of the prison administration towards the prisoners, has changed.

 

'OUR VITAL NEEDS ARE NOT GIVEN'

 

Bektaş said: "The prison administration doesn't give one of the hunger strikers their needs such as lemons, salt and sugar while they give them to the other on purpose. Our friend Murat Karaaslan is sick and in quarantine. He wants clean drinking water because he can not consume tab water in his condition, but the guards don't give him drinking water. The political prisoners under quarantine are provoked while the ordinary prisoners under quarantine are given their needs. We are subjected to discrimination."

Underlining that two of their friends are currently on hunger strike and the hunger strike action will continue until the demands are met, Bektaş called for support.
