SİİRT - MEBYA DER Representative Leyla Özalp, who shared the information that there were 200 unidentified bodies of HPG members who lost their lives in clashes in 3 separate cemeteries in Siirt, suggested that a commission be established to determine their identities and deliver them to their families.

The conflicts over the Kurdish issue stemming from the deadlock policies that have been followed for 40 years continue to cause deaths. One of the many negative consequences of this low-intensity war is the deaths. Hundreds of examples of attacks on the bodies of HPG members who lost their lives in the clashes have been reflected to the public until today, while hundreds of unidentified people were buried in cemeteries of the nameless.

According to the information shared by Leyla Özalp, representative of MEBYA-DER Siirt, there are 200 unidentified bodies in 3 different cemeteries in the city.

Özalp stated that they determined these numbers as a result of their research and stated that these unidentified bodies are located in Zevye in Yenimahalle, Seyh Musa in Doğan District and in the orphans section of Sheikh Süleyman Cemetery in Ulus District of the city. Özalp also said that these bodies belonged to HPG members who lost their lives in the clashes in the region since 2006.

Özalp shared that since March 2020, the bodies of 15 unidentified HPG members have been brought to the cemeteries in the city, and said that 5 of them were buried in their hometown by their families after their identities were identified.

THEY WANT TO MAKE THE BODIES DISSAPPEAR

Stating that most of the funerals belong to people from Northern and Eastern Syria, Federated Kurdistan and Iranian Kurdistan, Özalp said: "They leave 200 meters distance between those buried in Sheikh Musa Cemetery and want the graves to be lost doing that. Citizens who have died are buried among these graves. In the other two cemeteries, there are just numbers on the headstones. An inscription was written on the tombstone indicating where some of them lost their lives. For example, Herekol and the date of his death are written. The section where these graves are located is watched by CCTVs 24/7. It is not allowed to touch with the graves and even remove the weeds on it "

Calling the families of the HPG members whom the families recieved information that they are dead should claim their bodies and contact them for help. Özalp underlined that no one should be buried at the cemetery of the nameless, underlined that most of these people were killed at the clashes that took place in Herekol, Baykan, Çırav and Pervari.

CALL FOR A COMMISSION

Lastly, Özalp proposed a commission to be established consisting of non-governmental organizations, political parties and lawyers, and noted that 200 unidentified corpses could be returned to their families with this commission.
