DİYARBAKIR- Stating that the application made by the bar association in December 2021 against the ban on attorneys in Imrali was not answered, Diyarbakir Bar Association President Nahit Eren said: "Unfortunately, we have not received a response to our written applications from the Ministry of Justice until today."
Diyarbakır Bar Association has been the target of racist groups for a while. Especially after they condemned the massacre against civilians in the Perex village of Zaxo city in the Federated Kurdistan Region of Turkey and their attempts regarding the ongoing isolation on PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, threats and targeting increased. Diyarbakir Bar Association President Nahit Eren stated that threats and targeting cannot be considered separately from security policies in the Kurdish question.
‘BEING OF TARGET IS NOT INDEPENDENT OF THE KURDISH QUESTION’
Emphasizing that their targeting is not independent of the Kurdish problem, Eren said: "The Kurdish question emerged due to the violations of rights or unlawfulness in Kurdistan, and that the attacks are not just a 10-year-old question. The serious human rights violations that have taken place in the region since the 1990s are not events or facts to be considered separately from the Kurdish question. Diyarbakir Bar Association took a stance against such violations with the attitude of its legal and institutional identity. Diyarbakir Bar Association has a historical stance against injustices, that efforts in this sense disturb the government, and that is why there are threats and targeting, and also we can say that under the threat of targeting and investigation lies the insolubility of the Kurdish question.”
“FAMILY AND ATTORNEYS PROHIBITION IS UNLAWFUL”
Drawing attention to the ongoing unlawfulness in İmralı and emphasizing that not allowing Öcalan to meet with his family and attorneys is a legally problematic issue, Eren said: “If someone whose role is considered important by the society or the actors of the issue in terms of solving a problem, it will definitely contribute to the solition. I have no doubt that when the communication to be established or a real will for a solution to the problem is revealed, everyone will really do their part. The İmralı was a process that existed in the past as well, and we have seen his discourses before, both on PKK, on the society, and on being addressed by the state. In this sense, communication will contribute to the solution of the problem."
THEY DIDN'T RESPOND OUR APPLICATIONS
Stating that they applied to the Ministry of Justice in December 2021 for the visit of families and attorneys of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who is held in isolation, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş are held in İmrali High Security Type F prison, Eren said: "we applied to the Ministry of Justice and we expressed the concern of both family members and attorneys. We also expressed that the Diyarbakır Bar Association is ready for such a meeting. Unfortunately, we have not received a response to our written applications from the Ministry of Justice until today."
'THE KURDISH QUESTION SHOULD NOT BE EXTENDED FOR ANOTHER 40 YEARS'
The Kurdish question is an issue that has caused the death of tens of thousands of our people for the last 40 years. The Kurdish question is also the cause of Turkey's democracy, freedoms and heavy economic damage. This question needs to be resolved in terms of cultural, political and identity. This question should not be extended for another 40 years of conflict. In this sense, we believe that the solution will be through dialogue. Our call as a bar association; All actors should fulfill their responsibilities in this regard and contribute.”
