VAN - Stating that PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan has been kept in isolation for 24 years, DBP VQA Member Ökkeş Kava said: "We will fight not only for isolation, but also for the physical freedom of Mr. Öcalan in 2023."

 

There has been no news for more than 21 months from PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who is being held in İmralı Prison. While the requests for meeting of lawyers and their families were left unanswered, the applications made by legal organizations, lawyers and MPs through the Ministry of Justice have not been answered until today.

 

Evaluating the isolation on PKK Leader Öcalan, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Central Executive Committee (MYK) member Ökkeş Kava reminded that the isolation on Öcalan has continued uninterruptedly for 24 years and said that holding meetings with a lawyer or family at certain times does not mean that the isolation has been lifted.

 

'THE SYSTEM CONSIDERS DANGER'

 

Reminding that Öcalan has developed an alternative management system to the state system, Kava said: “The state system supposedly created itself to solve social problems, but at the point we reached, it could not go beyond creating problems. The state became the center of the problems and especially imposed a monist mentality. The understanding of one language, one flag, one nation created many problems because no one nation lives in any geography. All other differences were excluded and social reflexes developed against it. Öcalan proved that the state is the source of problems 6,000 years after the development of the state system and created an alternative to it. While this paradigm was conveyed to the peoples by Mr. Öcalan, the system saw it as a danger to itself. We saw a concrete example of this in 2013 and 2014. Everyone saw how the democratic solution process initiated by Mr. Öcalan had a positive impact on Turkey for 2 years.”

 

'ISOLATION AFFECTS SOCIETY'

 

Emphasizing that the isolation affects the society multidimensionally, Kava said: “Isolation means war, denial-destruction policies, economic crisis, international political crisis. At the time of the negotiations with Mr. Öcalan, the nationalist feelings in the society, the feelings of seeing each other as enemies, were almost rotten. This situation gave rise to great hope in the society. Everyone was beginning to believe that the war would be over. This situation was also reflected in the Middle East, because after all, we are talking about a geography shared between 4 countries. The Kurdish problem in Turkey is no different from that in Iran, Syria and Iraq. In other words, there is a problem in the center of the Middle East, and when this problem is solved, it will have positive effects on the whole geography.

 

'WE WILL FIGHT FOR ÖCALAN'S PHYSICAL FREEDOM'

 

Stating that they will fight for the physical freedom of PKK Leader Öcalan in 2023, Kava said: “One of the most important issues we are working on as a party is isolation. The isolation of Mr. Öcalan should not be lifted, but he should be physically free. We also express how great a peace ambassador Mr. Öcalan is for Middle East society. Therefore, it is not enough to simply lift the isolation on Öcalan. Öcalan's paradigm now needs to be addressed and discussed. We argue that Mr. Öcalan should now be able to share his ideas and paradigm with Middle Eastern societies. We believe that this paradigm should be discussed with the owner himself, and we will continue our democratic work to the end for this to happen. We have hope, our struggle continues. We know that the paradigm of Mr. Öcalan, who dedicates his whole life to peace and is seen as the will of society, is hope for societies."
