URFA  - Zahîde Memo, a member of the Jineology Research Center, stated that they discussed the place of women in the world of science at the First Science Conference of the Jineology Research Center and emphasized the need for a "female perspective" in scientific studies.

Jineology Research Center held its First Science Conference on January 10 at Serdem Camp in Shehba Canton of Northern and Eastern Syria. 170 delegates from Afrin, Shehba and Aleppo attended the conference, which was held with the slogan "jin, jiyan, azadi, from the struggle of Sakine and Evin to the struggle of Jîna, Zeynep and Nagihan".

Violence against women and children, education, economy and health issues were discussed at the conference, which was held at a time when Turkey's attacks and the Syrian Regime's embargo continued. Zahîde Memo, member of Afrin-Shehba Jineology Research Center, evaluated the conference held in the shadow of the attacks to our agency.

'JIN, JIYAN, AZADI PERSPECTIVE'

Stating that the conference was supported by women's councils, Kongra Star, Young Women's Union and other women's institutions, Memo said: "We discussed the work of the Jîneology Center, which has been established in Shehba for 2 years, before the conference. These studies are the continuation of the studies in Afrin, which is currently under Turkish domination. We want to conclude the training, research, discussion and workshops they have been organizing for 2 years with a conference. We sought solutions by bringing the emerging problems and criticisms together with the conference. We started the conference with the perspective of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and the writings of our friend Nagihan Akarsel, who was also murdered against Soleimani. We discussed the 'Jin, jiyan, azadi' perspective. We also discussed the 2-year-old perspective. We included the programs of the work. We also did theaters. Songs about Jîna Emin and the revolt of women in resistance were sung. At the conference, we discussed violence against women and children, the importance of women's economy, and technological violence against women."

Stating that they wanted to be an answer to the massacres of the hegemon states against women with the conference, Memo said: "We saw how strong we are under the embargo, bombardment and special war policies in Shehba. We showed everyone that we are organized and that we continue our work. We continue our work in this subconscious and we will continue to do so."

'CHANGE IS POSSIBLE WITH WOMEN'

Mentioning the importance of Jineology, Memo said: "We continue our work not only in Northern and Eastern Syria, but also in Kurdistan, the Middle East and Europe. Women came prepared to the workshops they held at the conference and that many ideas came together. We discussed the place of women in science dominated by men. We held the conference out of necessity because an organization, a freedom movement is ideologically built. We need to complement each other. When we look at the origins of the ideas emerging today, they all emerge in the light of science. Whether or not these ideas have an impact is very important. How connected is science to these, how much is the women's field related to science? We have scientifically discussed the sociological, philosophical, social liking of the opposite sex and its effects on children. This is the reason why we are holding the conference scientifically, not organizationally. We wanted scientific evaluation to emerge. We know that the correction of science is possible through women's evaluations and women's perspectives because woman is science, woman is life. We address not only women but the whole society in the light of science with this discussion."

'IT WAS A RESPONSE TO ATTACKS IN AFRIN'

Emphasizing the importance of doing this work with women from Afrin and Shehba on the 5th anniversary of the Afrin occupation, Memo continued: “We wanted to respond to the colonialists and occupiers with this conference. This is why we came together with Afrin and Arab women who are immigrants today. It was important for us to hold and discuss the conference on this date. We wanted to remember that Afrin was occupied. Of course, our first wish was to return to Afrin, in a sense, our aim was to convey this message. They want to smash the power of women in the region. At the conference, we also discussed the women's union created under all circumstances. Women want to come together more and be a solution force. They want to prevent massacres with this organization and awareness. For this reason, women's embracing and uniting with each other was also an important agenda of the conference. By continuing this and similar collaborations in the coming days, we will nullify the attacks. We decided to strengthen our partnership.”
