GAZİANTEP- Syrian Muhammad Khalid and his wife, the only family in the rural neighborhood where they live, who could not take the tent even though everyone was given a tent, said: "Is there no mercy left?"

 

Çakmak Neighborhood of Gaziantep's Nurdağı district, which was destroyed after the Maraş-centered earthquakes, also received great damage. In the neighborhood where there was no loss of life, tents were delivered to the people after 4 days. While the tents sent by AFAD were distributed, the Syrian family was not given a tent even though 22 days passed.

 

EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS ARE EXPOSED TO RACIST

 

Syrian Mohammed Khalid and his wife, who moved to Nurdağı in 2014 from Aleppo, Syria due to the ongoing war, have been shepherds in the village for years. Stating that he was not wanted by the people of the neighborhood despite working for them, Muhammed Halid said: "We were exposed to racist rhetoric. They say, 'Let these Arabs get out of here. I went to charge my phone this morning at the generator in the village centre. They fired me."

 

THE VICTIMS CANNOT GET A TENT

 

Stating that he is interested in all the affairs of the neighborhood, Halid said: "I did not receive any money from the people of the neighborhood for these works but they discriminate against us. When we go to the place where the aid is distributed, the neighborhood does not want us to receive it. They say 'don't come'. We have been here for 8-10 years. We want the food aid to be delivered to us."
