On the morning of February 24, a clash broke out between the soldiers and Sıtkı Kurtoğlu (Xebat Xelat), an alleged PKK member, in the hamlet of Karacurun in the Mishecerk (Gönen) District of Pirsus (Suruç) district of Riha. After the detention, Adle Samur was arrested on the allegation of "being a member of a terrorist organization" and was sent to Urfa No. 2 Type T Prison, and his husband Mehmet Samur to Urfa No. 1 Type T Prison. Torture and ill-treatment of the Samur couple continued in the prison, with the imposition of a stripped search.

Samur couple's children, Mizgin Samur and Faruk Samur, talked about the torture that their parents were subjected to.

'THE POLICE HELD THE GUN BARREL TOWARDS MY PARENTS'

Stating that their house was raided by the police and soldiers at 05:00 on Thursday, March 2, Mizgin Samur said: "The police and soldiers were holding the gun barrel towards my parents. Adding to his words that his mother was subjected to severe torture during the detention, Samur described the detention process as follows: “When I opened the door, they pushed me and told me to lie down. Then my mother came with me. Guns are held towards both of us. They wanted to go check it out. They took me with them to the roof with a gun to my back. There was me, my mother and my grandmother at home. They were constantly yelling at us. They were asking about my father."

TORTURE IN THE ROOM

Stating that the police turned on the camera, Samur said: "The police said that they have the right to search, had them read a paper, then turned off the camera and started storming the house. They broke some items in the house and insulted them. Then they took my mother to the room and closed the door. They were hitting my mother, I could hear my mother's screams. So I called the village headman because they were hitting my mother, but the headman did not even look. My mother's voice stopped for a moment, I was very scared. They beat my mother with a rolling pin and a stove skewer. They hit their shoulders, feet and arms.”

THEY COVERED THE  MOUTH OF MY MOTHER  WITH CLOTH AND TORTURED HER'

Emphasizing that his parents were threatened with death during the detention, Samur said: “My father was not at home at that time, he was in the field. I saw them take my father away. He had no shoes on, his shirt was torn, his hands were cuffed behind his back. He was covered in dust, he was so waisted that they dragged him on the ground. About 20 cars had come to the village. There was the prosecutor, the bomb squad expert, and the crime scene investigation. They took me out of the house and put a crime scene investigation team in my room, they threatened me and my mother with death at home, they said 'we will kill you'. Then my mother told me, they covered my mother's mouth with a cloth and tortured her. In the same way, they took my father under the fig tree and put a gun to his head and said, "We will kill you."

POLICE HARASSMENT: SPYING IS IMPLEMENTED BY SENDING MESSAGES

Samur also mentioned that a police officer named Eren, who was in charge of the TEM branch, offered him spying, and said that he was constantly disturbed by texting. Stating that they offered him money, Samur said: “They said that they would help you to become their agent. They texted again a couple of days ago. I told them not to call again and that I would change my number. Then they said that they will find me. They took my phone and computer in the house raid. They showed me some documents that they claimed to have obtained from my phone but that did not belong to me. They also offered me money to be their agent. They told me that they will give me a scholarship."

STRIPPED SEARCH

Pinting out that his parents were subjected to a stripped search in prison, Faruk Samur said: “Although my mother did not accept the stripped search, her clothes were forcibly taken off. My mother was constantly insulted, they wanted to take her to the judicial ward, but my mother refused. There are still traces of torture on her shoulders and arms. In the same way, they imposed a stripped search on my father, and he did not accept, and they took off his clothes by force. They wanted to take my father to the judicial ward. My father, too, was constantly subjected to verbal insults and said that his back hurt a lot. The traces of torture still remained."

POLICE WANTS TO BE REMOVED FROM THE VILLAGE

Pointing out that the remaining family members wanted to be expelled from the village as a result of pressure, Samur said: “Drones were constantly flying in the village, they put pressure on the villagers. They are gone now, but they may come again. Their aim is to drive us away from our village, but we will never leave our land, we will die on our own land."
