ISTANBUL - At the screening of the documentary "Something Very Bad Happened", directed by journalist Ümit Kıvanç, about the Madımak Massacre, it was emphasized that the struggle for justice will continue.

In order to commemorate the Madımak Massacre, the documentary "Something Very Bad Happened", shot within the scope of the Madımak Massacre Memory Center project, produced by the Confederation of European Alevi Unions and carried out with the support of many Alevi organizations and institutions, was screened.

People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan, as well as many citizens, political parties and non-governmental organization members and representatives attended the screening held at the Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall.

The event started after a moment of silence for those who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom and democracy. At the event, which attracted great attention from the citizens, firstly a short cinema show was shown about the lives of 33 people who were burned alive in the Madımak Hotel.

'OUR SEARCH FOR JUSTICE HAS CONTINUED FOR 31 YEARS'

After the video screening, Madımak Massacre Memory Center General Coordinator Eylem Şen noted that the main responsible for the Madımak massacre is the "state". Şen said: “For 31 years, the state has not apologized for the Madımak massacre. The state crime was not only not confronted but also covered up. The real perpetrators and evidence behind this crime were covered up. Our search for justice has been continuing for 31 years. During this process, some people were caught and arrested, but they were released not long after. The lawsuits have expired. We will continue our demand for justice, no matter what the outcome."

ORGANIZED NO FORCE CAN DEFEAT A PEOPLE

Cuma Erçe, Chair of the Pir Sultan Association, stated that they carried out an organized struggle despite the pressures and said: “The fire burning in Madımak and the fire burning in Roboskî, Mêrdîn and Amed are the same. Those who besieged Sivas Madımak that day are besieging Turkey today. The black smoke in Madımak surrounded everywhere today and we are unable to breathe. Our duty is to disperse this black smoke with all the oppressed here. It is necessary to organize more against all these pressures. Everyone knows that no force can defeat an organized people."

Following the speeches, the documentary "Something Very Bad Happened", directed by journalist Ümit Kıvanç, about the Madımak Massacre, was screened.
