MANİSA - DEM Party Co-Chair Tulay Hatimoğulları came together with seasonal agricultural workers and farmers in Şehzadeler district of Manisa.

Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları met with seasonal agricultural workers in Şehzadeler district of Manisa as part of the “Bread and Justice” campaign. Hatimoğulları was accompanied by many party members. The delegation visited tomato gardens and listened to the problems of farmers and workers.

Speaking during the visit, Hatimoğulları stated that they met with laborers and producers in Turkey and Kurdistan as part of the “Bread and Justice” meetings and listened to their problems.

LABORERS AND FARMERS ARE TROUBLED

Speaking later, the workers emphasized that their biggest problem is livelihood. Stating that they work from morning until night for 850 Liras per day, the workers said that this money is not enough when they go shopping and that they cannot pay their rent.  The workers noted that they do not have insurance and that they bring their meals from home.

The garden owner, who produces tomatoes, said that the products they could sell in the past remained in the field and that both they and the workers were victimized in this situation. Pointing out that the companies are united during the harvesting periods, the producer underlined that this situation causes the products to remain in the field.

'WE NEED BREAD AND JUSTICE'

Speaking again afterwards, Hatimoğulları stated that it is difficult to make a living with hard work in these times and said: “The increases in meat, milk and bread are unaccounted for. Hunger and poverty are increasing exponentially in Turkey. In the past, one person could support a family. But now 14-year-old children say 'we cannot make a living'. Small farmers are also in a difficult situation. The tomatoes produced remain in the field. Tomato paste factories have made an agreement among themselves to buy the product cheaply. We will voice the problems of farmers, laborers, women and children. This country needs bread and justice. Today, we cannot talk about justice if a 14-year-old child is working in the fields. We will fight to make your voices heard.”

MOVED ON TO GÖLMARMARA

After their visit here, the delegation set off for Gölmarmara district to meet with seasonal agricultural workers.
