AGIRÎ - 3 women prisoners who were previously beaten in Patnos Type L Closed Prison were transferred to different prisons. Families learnt that their relatives were transferred during open meetings.
Helin Özdemir, Rumeysa Bozkurt and Hayriye Göksü, prisoners in Patnos Type L Closed Prison in Agirî (Ağrı), were beaten on 18 December when the wardens raided their wards. The prisoners told about the beating incident in their weekly phone call to their families on 19 December. The families of 3 women prisoners learnt that their children were transferred to another prison during their open visit today.
It is not knowsn to which prison the women prisoners were transferred.
THEY HAD APPLIED TO IHD
After the women prisoners told about the beatings during their weekly phone calls, their families applied to the Human Rights Association (İHD) Agirî Branch. On 21 December 2024, an İHD delegation met with prisoners who were beaten in prison and prepared a report. One of the prisoner Helin Özdemir stated that 50 wardens raided their ward and said, "Guards raided our ward. After they physically intervened us in the ward, our hands were handcuffed behind our backs and we were put in a cell. In addition to physical violence, we were subjected to verbal insults. We demand an independent organization to investigate the violation of our rights. We want the public to take action."
