MERSİN - Furkan Özen, who was subjected to police violence in Akdeniz district of Mersin, stated that the armoured vehicle reversed and crushed him and that the doctor did not examine him at the hospital despite being beaten.
During the protests against the appointment of trustees to the municipality in Akdeniz district of Mersin, police officers hit Furkan Özen, 20, with an armoured vehicle in Yenipazar neighbourhood yesterday evening. The police officers then beat Özen and detained him. Özen, who was taken to the Provincial Security Directoratei reported the violece against him through his lawyer.
Özen stated that the armoured vehicle came backwards and ran over him and that he had wounds on his knee and abdomen due to this incident. Özen said, The armoured vehicle came backwards and ran over me. I was beaten both on the ground and in the armoured vehicle I was taken to. I was taken to the hospital but the doctor did no examine me. Although I showed my wounds, they did not examine me. They borught me back to the police station."
THERE ARE TRACES OF BEATING
Özen's lawyer stated that Özen has swelling under both eyes due to torture and added, "There are 4-5 cm of peeling on his right knee and scratches on the left side of his abdomen. The client stated that he was also beaten after he was taken to the armoured vehicle and that the doctor did not examine him at the hospital. He is currently under custody at Anti-terror branch (TEM)".
