Turkey Human's Rights Foundation (TİHV) President Şebnem Korur Fincancı, who was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months of prison sentence because she signed the petition called 'We will not be a partner to this crime' evaluated her prison sentence verdict.

 

Fincancı who underlined that the sentence she's been given is the price of revealing the facts, said: " Facing the truth is both painful and a part of our culture. Instead of questioning our own responsibility, We've been putting the blame on others or make it look like there was no crime,  and it was written in our very common and genetic codes. From individual relations to social arrangements we can see its traces everywhere. In this case, the will of not being a partner to that crime itself is actually exposing that crime, however it turned out to be a punishable crime for us to remind others that in order to be safe in this conjuncture, you need to be silent."

 

 

'THE EXPOSURE OF CRIME TURNS INTO AN EVIDENCE OF A CRIME'

 

Fincancı who reminded that there are insertions to the main case file, said: " One of the 3 insertions was the Cizre report, which I used to expose the crime in the last hearing, some newspaper interviews and news and published works on Cizre report. Therefore, the exposure of a crime turned into an evidence of a crime against us."

 

'KEEP UP THE STRUGGLE'

 

Fincancı stating that it is the human's rights activities that is being punished, said: " What we did in Cizre, was the documentation of the violations of human rights and what the government had to do was to investigate those files and conduct an inquiry, however,  their attitude of being unrelated to the facts denigrated the work that we are carrying out as a crime by reversing the work we conduct, and criminalized the struggle for human rights. This verdict showed me that I was doing my job well. I will spare no effort to make it even better. I will continue to struggle"
