BATMAN - Hasankeyf Sustenance Initiative spokesperson Rıdvan Ayhan demanded an independent committee to be allowed to go to the castle to investigate the damage caused by the fire the other day.

Hasankeyf Sustenance Initiative spokesperson Rıdvan Ayhan who tried to climb on top of the castle to investigate the damage caused by the fire with our reporter, said an independent committee should be permitted to go up and investigate. Many historical houses from the fire have turned to ashes, while some caves in the area remained under fire. A large number of living species lost their lives in the fire caused by plastic waste. Police officers of the Hasankeyf District Police prevented us from taking photographs claiming its a 'prohibited area'.

Pointing out that the historical structures are less likely to be affected by dry grasses, Ayhan said: "Of course, historical buildings have been damaged, we can only see this by doing an on-site inspection. For this it is necessary to be allowed to go up there. After we were able to get up to a part of the castle, we were blocked by the police. We had the opportunity to investigate with them for a while. There were carbon deposits on the historical buildings. We saw some bird nests and all had turned to ashes". Ayhan also pointed out the massacre of animals, "This place has been the nest of living things for years. We do not know what happened to all these animals. But the survival rate of animals in a fire is very low. Now all the animals lost their lives and their homes."

Ayhan said: "The government took away a few historical artifects and say Hasankeyf has been rescued. The history is right here for all of us to see. There are thousands of caves here. Hasankeyf is not just a couple of monuments and artifects. Whatever left here has been burned down. They have to investigate who did this."
