Journalist Öncel acquitted at the first hearing

DİYARBAKIR - Journalist Arjin Dilek Öncel is acquitted from all charges from the lawsuit filed against her for her social media shares at the first hearing.

The first hearing of the lawsuit filed against Mesopotamia Agency (MA) reporter Arjin Dilek Öncel in which the prosecutor demanded a prison sentence from 1 year 6 months to 7 and a half years was held at Diyarbakır 11th High Criminal Court. Journalist Öncel and her attorney Resul Tamur attended the trial.
 
Öncel said: "I retweeted the articles of the agency I work with for 5 years. My shares was purely for news purposes. They are not propaganda and they are not violent.They are within the boundaries of reporting. It was news about the rescuing civilians in Rakka."
 
Lawyer Resul Tamur presented the similar news articles in the Cumhuriyet and Sözcü newspapers to the court, saying that no investigation was opened against them.
 
The prosecutor announced his opinion and demanded a 7 and a half year prison sentence for Öncel.
 
Based on the new judiciary package, the court acquitted Öncel
