DIYARBAKIR – The body of Erhan Ölçen, who lost his life in an armed conflict in Lice, has not been given to his family and kept in the hospital for 96 days.

The body of Erhan Olten from HPG (The People's Defence Forces) who died in the conflict on  November the 3rd in the rural part of Lice district of Diyarbakır, has been kept for 96 days in the morgue of Diyarbakır Gazi Yaşargil Education and Research Hospital. Receiving the news of the death of his son, father Aziz Ölçen, applied to the Bağlar District Gendarme Station regarding the body of his son. The father who went to the police station identified his son from the photos shown to him. However, as the body of his son was not delivered to him, father Ölçen gave a blood sample for DNA diagnosis on January the 20th.

PROSECUTOR: YOU ARE NOT THE CORRESPONDENT

Having not been able to get his son’s body for 3 months, father Ölçen stated that his son had been arrested during his university years and that he had been in prison for 3 years, so that he sure had fingerprints in the system. Therefore he reacted to the fact that the diagnosis of the body still not been completed. Indicating that he has applied to the prosecutor's office, Ölçen said that he was rejected by the claim that “You are not the correspondent”.  Father Ölçen asked: "I am the father, who else can be the correspondent?"

Reporting that the family lawyer also applied to the prosecutor's office later on, Ölçen said that prosecutor's office claimed that the results of the DNA test has not been received yet.

Father Ölçen is at the same time, a manager in the Association for Help and Solidarity for the Families who Lost Their Relatives in the Cradle of Civilizations (MEBYA-DER). Ölçen stated that they have been trying to get the bodies for 96 days but they could not obtain any results.

HE WAS THREATENED

Underlying that they were exposed to threats at the police station they applied to, father Measen recorded that:  "They told us that we are causing trouble for the state. Then they called from the police station and they threatened us saying that ‘We explained the necessary details to the prosecutor's office, do not disturb us again’. No religion or faith could accept such a mistreatment.”
