DİYARBAKIR - Kurdish Literature Association Co-Chair Sultan Yaray indicated that they will work in order to introduce the Kurdish literary works sufficiently and to remove the obstacles that the writers encounter. Yaray said, "We will declare 2020 as the year of Kurdish language."

The Kurdish Literature Association was recently initiated by a group of Kurdish writers in Diyarbakır. Sultan Yaray and Hogir Berbir will carry out the co-chairmanship of the association, which was opened in order to strengthen the link and organization between Kurdish writers and contribute to the development of literature and language.

SOLIDARITY IS SIGNIFICANT

Speaking about the foundation of the association, Co-Chair Sultan Yaray stated that after the Kurdish Writers Association was closed down with a Statuory Decree Law, a need for such an initiative has emerged. Noting that the association will be working on the introduction of Kurdish literary works as well as giving effort to solve the problems of the Kurdish writers, Yaray pointed out that the solidarity among the writers is of primary importance for Kurdish literature.

‘KURDISH, SYRIANIC, ARABIC... '

Stating that Diyarbakır has a very rich potential in the field of literature and publishing with its local authors, Yaray said, “We will carry out our work with a strong belief. We will take necessary steps to solve the problems together with the literary evenings and meetings with the authors. We do not know the works of many authors. We will organize autograph sessions and literature days to embrace these works. But it is not only works written in Kurdish. Apart from that, we will protect the works of Syriac, Arabic, and Turkish writers as well. We will support authors with their publishing and advertising processes."

EVENTS START BY FEBRUARY 20

Stating that it is important for them to set the the opening date of the association close to February 21-World Mother Language Day, Yaray said that they will organize a panel in their association on February 20. Saying that they will visit Mardin, Cizre and Urfa to attend different activities after the panel, Yaray ended her statements as follows: "We will declare 2020 as the year of Kurdish language. Because it it was for another language, it would have already gone extinct so far. Kurdish has managed to survive after all the pressure  and the assimilation policies".
