DİYARBAKIR – DTK Co-Chair Leyla Güven, stating that government officials, especially the Ministry of Justice must make an explanation about the fire in İmralı island, said: "Mr. Öcalan and the other prisoners must be allowed to see their families and their attorneys and must be transferred to a safer place."

Democratic Society Congress (DTK) and Free Women's Movement (TJA) made a joint statement regarding the fire in İmralı Island where PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, Hamili Yıldırım, Ömer Hayri Konar and Veysi Aktaş are held.

The statement is as follows:

"We have learned that a fire broke out in the İmralı Island where PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, Hamili Yıldırım, Ömer Hayri Konar and Veysi Aktaş are held.

It is stated that even though Mudanya Municipality and the fire department tries to reach the island, the storm at the sea is making it difficult.

And even though it is said that the fire was intervened, the fire in the island full of the pine trees and the olive trees can grow due to the wind.

Government officials, especially the ministry of justice, should make a statement about this fire. Following the statements Mr. Öcalan and the other prisoners must be allowed to see their families and their lawyers and they must be transferred to a safer place.

This is the only way they can make a satisfying statement. Without this visitation, the statements of the government will be insufficient.

It is no longer possible to maintain absolute isolation in this way after all this time. The stage of absolute isolation on Mr. Öcalan, who has been detained in İmralı Island for 21 years, is no longer acceptable. The negative situations that developed after 2016, especially the Fetö coup attempt, now make it necessary to change the conditions of Mr. Öcalan.

Therefore, fires and emergencies like this will cause tension in the society as if the isolation itself is not enough. WHat we need is not tension and chaos, but a hope fo ra life in  which democratic social values correspond.

In this context, we invite the national and international democratic society, democratic mass organizations, the press and the public to be sensitive in this regard."
