DİYARBAKIR – Co-Mayors of the 8 HDP municipalities were dismissed from office due to former ongoing investigations against them.
The mayors of Batman, Ergani, Eğil, Lice, Silvan, Güroymak, Halfeli, Gökçebağ of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) were dismissed from office and were taken into custody. While provincial and district governors were appointed to replace them, the Co-Mayors were removed from duty based on the 127th article of the Constitution and the 47th article of the Municipalities Law. The dismissal of co-mayors was also based on investigations and ongoing lawsuits launched in 2019 and before.
