KARS- 68-year-old imprisoned Kurdish politician Mahmut Alınak who has chronic illnesses, requested his release due to coronavirus outbreak but his request was rejected on the grounds of "suspicion of absconding" His lawyer and his son Bişar Alınak stated, "My father did not flee neither from Kenan Evren fascism nor from Mehmet Ağar's "white Toros" attacks, would he escape now?"

The of release due the coronavirus pandemic was rejected for Kurdish politician Mahmut Alınak, who was arrested on February 17 in Kars and expected to be put on trial with a demand of life imprisonment. Lawyer Bişar Alıak, who applied to the Kars 2nd High Criminal Court on March 18, demanded his father to be released due to coronavirus pandemic as his father had chronic illnesses. However, the public prosecutor, who submitted the application to the court to get consultation regarding the application, rejected he request on the grounds of  "the nature of the crime" and "suspicion of absconding".

'THE COUNTRY IS GOVERNED WITH THE STICK OF PRISONS'

Lawyer Bişar Alınak made the following statement regarding the rejection of request of release: "Our release request was rejected even though my father is in the coronavirus risk group. It will not be sufficient to evaluate the rejection decision in terms of law alone. The government, which has been in power for more than 17 years, ruled the country with the 'stick of prisons'. Since this government, which tries to influence the social psychology by imposing fear, knows it pretty well that they cannot continue their existence unless they use the politics of hostility and fear, the prisons in Turkey are full of people who are critically thinking and writing and making politics. We cannot count their unlawfull applications. For this reason, I was not surprised that the request for my father's release was rejected. We have given them the opportunity to act by a good will once, but they have shown that they are too evil to act good and how much they have internalized Kurdish hostility".

HE NEVER ESCAPED FROM FASCISM...

Commenting on the decision of the prosecutor and the court regarding the rejection of the request on the grounds of “suspicion of absconding", lawyer Bişar Alınak told to our agency: “When did Mahmut Alınak, who went to prison 10 times escape ever to escape from such an an empty indictment now! My father did not escape from Kenan Evren fascism and the military dictatorship of Kenan Evren after the 80's coup d'etat.  He did not escape from Demirel, Tansu Çiller and the "white Toros" cars of Mehmet Ağar.(White Toros cars were known to be used to kidnap and lose the political figures and Kurdish citizens during the 90s in Turkey)  Will he escape now? When they see my father's determined stance in the trial, they will see very well that they have exceeded their limits. They try to lose and forget the opposition figures who think, write and struggle bu accusing them of terorrism and putting them behind the jail bars. Such useless attempts! The memory of the Kurdish people is strong and will never forget this".
