ISTANBUL - IBB President Ekrem İmamoglu announced that an investigation was launched against him and Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş by the Interior Ministry due to their aid campaign.

 

The Ministry of Internal Affairs launched an investigation against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) President Ekrem Imamoglu and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mansur Yavaş due to the aid campaigns initiated for solidarity with citizens who suffered financially due to the coronovirus (Kovid-19) epidemic.

 

Ekrem İmamoğlu, the President of IBB, announced that an investigation was launched against him and Yavaş.

 

Speaking to Sözcü newspaper, Imamoglu announced that the investigation was launched last Friday. "We heard that it was launched in Ankara as well. Probably an inspector will go to other municipalities that are organizing campaigns. The investigation is not only against me."

 

Reminding that he still has 900 thousand lira donation money, which is still blocked in Vakıfbank, Imamoglu said, “You can make an investigation. But blocking the money donated by the citizens is low. The donation is still blocked. We have made our legal application. The court asked the governor for an answer and the governor is given 15 days to respond. This time has not expired yet. This problem will eventually be resolved. What the bank did is unlawfull and out of fear of the government.ITs a black mark in the history of banking.

 

BACKGROUND

 

CHP's Ankara and İstanbul Metropolitan Municipalities have initiated a campaign for those who can not meet their needs during the coronavirus lock down on March 30. However, a circular was issued against this campaign by Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu.

 

In the circular sent to 81 provincial governorships, it was emphasized that in the existing laws, municipalities do not have a provision regarding aid collection activities and that the municipalities who want to campaign should get permission from the provincial governorship.
