While the celebrations for May Day were cancelled due to coronavirus, Taksim Square which labour and professional organizations who wants to make symbolic celebrations are closed down with police barricades. The Taksim Square is closed with police barriers from days before May Day.

 

While the surroundings of the Republic Monument in the square were also surrounded by barriers, all roads leading to Taksim from Dolapdere, Şişli and Kabataş directions were closed. At the checkpoints established here, the police do not allow anyone to enter the square except journalists.

 

All alleys on İstiklal Street are also closed down with barriers. Police and Social Incidents Response Vehicles (TOMA) aredeployed on Dolapdere Street too.
