SAMSUN - Prisoners stated that human rights violations have increased and arbitrary disciplinary punishments have been given in Kavak S-Type Prison and called for awareness, saying that they will resist.

Prisoner Halil Muratoğlu, held in Samsun Kavak S-Type Prison, talked about the rights violations they were subjected to in a phone call with his family on March 26. Stating that the violations have become systematic, Muratoğlu called for public awareness.

Halil Muratoğlu's sister, Ayşegül Muratoğlu, explained her brother's statements in their phone conversation as follows: "My brother was given 3 separate disciplinary punishments. He said these disciplinary penalties were imposed arbitrarily. One of the disciplinary penalties is ban from using the common area, one is a visitation penalty and one is a solitary confinement sentence ranging between 11 and 20 days. Solitary confinement has been finalized. My brother will object to these disciplinary penalties. At the same time, he said that there were serious rights violations and pressure on the prisoners in Samsun S-Type, but they would not bow to this pressure as prisoners. My brother also stated that they will resist until the end.”

Ayşegül Muratoğlu called on all segments of society to voice their voices in prisons.
