HATAY - Hatay Earthquake Solidarity members boiled the cauldrons and burned the baxurs on the 40th day in memory of those who lost their lives in the earthquake.

Hatay Earthquake Solidarity volunteers boiled food in cauldrons at the event organized in the Samandağ Earthquake Solidarity area, 40 days after the 6 February Maraş earthquake. In the event, accompanied by Baxur (the scent of incense and basil), used by Arab Alevis in commemorations, both those who lost their lives were commemorated and a culture that has been going on for years was kept alive. Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Co-Chairperson Tülay Hatimoğulları and Socialist Re-Establishment Party (SYKP) Co-Chair Canan Yüce, one of the volunteers speaking at the memorial, Cansel Aslan stated that the commemoration also aims to continue the traditions and culture of Samandağ.

'WE ARE DETERMINED TO KEEP OUR TRADITIONS LIFE'

Aslan said: “We came together to commemorate our lost lives. We, as Hatay Earthquake Solidarity volunteers, have been trying to heal the wounds of the people of Hatay and Samandağ since the first day of the earthquake, together with the people of Hatay and our friends from abroad. We are determined not to leave Hatay and Samandag. We are determined to keep the culture and traditions of Samandağ alive. We would like to share with you once again that we will continue our work until we create the conditions for the people of Samandağ to stay in Samandağ. Today, in accordance with our traditions, we want to commemorate once again our lost lives with our baxur and basil.”

After the announcement, the dishes boiled in cauldrons were distributed to the public.
