AMED - Women participating in the “Women's Labor Gathering” organized by the Peyas Municipality in a different park every week demanded the expansion of activities to make their labor visible.

Amed/Peyas (Kayapınar) Municipality under the administration of Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) organizes “Women's Labor Meetings” in a different park every week. The meetings enable women to sell the products they produce with their handicrafts. Educational workshops are also organized for children. The meetings, which have been organized 4 times so far, are well attended.

THEY WANT THE WORK TO CONTINUE

Neşe Ay, one of the participants of the meetings, expressed her satisfaction with the service of the municipality that mediates the sale of their products. Ay emphasized that similar activities should continue.

Serpil Alparslan stated that the meetings provide both financial and moral support for women. Alparslan said: “It is important for women to stand on their own feet. We trust our municipality and expect it to continue.”

MARKETPLACE REQUEST

Saime Ateş Mesutoğlu stated that the meetings made it easier to sell the products they produce. “I cannot afford to work outside. My husband is a political prisoner. My child is also sick. I can only come when there is an event like this. It makes it easier financially.” Mesutoğlu said and demanded the creation of a marketplace and production areas for women.

Fatma Ay said: “It should be held at least 3 times a week. It is very nice and valuable that women's labor, which is not seen at home, is exhibited here. It contributes to women economically.”

'OUR NUMBER IS INCREASING'

Hediye Güneş Zenger, Director of Women and Family Services of Peyas Municipality, stated that their goal is to reach more women. Zenger noted that they aim to make women's labor visible. Pointing out that women are wanted to be imprisoned in houses, Zenger said: “They are economically barred. Our aim is to bring women together with this event. We have organized many meetings so far. We started with 15 women and today we are 30 women. Our number is increasing at every event. We want to increase this kind of activities.”
