DİYARBAKIR - Stating that their children have started a hunger strike with justified demands, families told that they will set up tents in front of the prisons and join the hunger strike themselves if their demands are not met.

A large number of detainees started an indefinite rotating hunger strike on 27 November against the violation of rights in prisons and the aggravated isolation imposed on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan. The second group took over the action the day before. Emphasizing that their children started a hunger strike with justified demands, their families said that if the demands are not met, they would set up tents at the prison gates and participate in the action. Noting that there are many violations of rights in prisons, the prisoners are not fed enough, the sick prisoners are not released despite the pandemic, the relatives of the prisoners stated that they are worried, but that their children did not have any other way other than the hunger strike action.

'THEIR DEMANDS ARE OUR DEMANDS'

Yesure Tufan, mother of Aziz Tufan, held in Diyarbakır No 1 High Security Prison, told that they did not accept the isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan and the other prisoners and that they will join the hunger strike if the demands of their children are not met.

SICK PRISONERS

Stating that a general amnesty must be granted for the prisoners, especially the sick prisoners, Tufan said the isolation is imposed on the whole society and called on to the mothers to support their children. Tufan said: "8 of us died at the last hunger strike. Enough is enough.

CALLED ON TO THE AUTHORITIES

Adressing the government officials, Tufan said: "I am saying that once again. The demands of our children are our demands. End this torture and grant a general amnesty. We are very concerned, suffering. Enough is enough. Let our children out during this pandemic. CPT should see what's going on in prisons and come investigate how the prisoners are doing in prisons."

Emphasizing that the sex offenders and drug dealers are released from prison, mother of Mahsun Saruhan from Tokat Type T Closed Prison, Sulhiye Saruhan said: "Our children are right to start the hunger strike. There was no other way. They do not hear or see what is done to them. It's like talking to a wall." Saruhan told that as the families, they will also join the hunger strike if the demands of the prisoners are not met and called to the families of the prisoners to raise their voices.
