ANKARA – Women's organisations have called for participation in the “Women's Rally” they will hold in Ankara on 10 January.
Women’s organisations held a press conference regarding the “Women’s Rally” they will hold on 10 January in Ankara’s Tandogan Square with the participation of women from Turkey and Kurdistan.
Speaking on behalf of the organisations organising the rally, Sude Dohman stated that women’s gains are being targeted due to the sexist and racist policies of right-wing ideologies that are on the rise worldwide. Stating that these attacks can only be thwarted through women’s solidarity, she added: “As all democratic forces and women in the country, we will come together to declare once again that we will not give up our acquired rights, to unite our voices and our strength and shout even louder. We will be in Ankara on 10 January with women from all corners of the country."
Emphasising that national and international obligations are not being met in Turkey, Sude Dohman stated that this situation makes life unsafe for women. Noting that it is once again women and children who are paying the price for the on-going wars in the Mİddle East, she stressed that peadce is not achieved simply by silencing weapons, but that democratisation must be ensured for social peace.
She added: "Let us give the strongest response to the patriarchal regime that expects obedience from us: We will not give up our rights, our right to life, or our freedoms."
Sude Dohman called on all women to gather at the Women's Rally to be held in Tandoğan Square on 10 January to fight against attacks on women and social problems.
