ANKARA - Our agency's reporter Cemil Uğur was deemed worthy of the "Successful Journalists of the Year-2020" award by the ÇGD for his story about two villagers thrown from a military helicopter in the Çatak district of Van.

Contemporary Journalists Association (ÇGD) "Successful Journalists of the Year-2020" awards were granted. One of the journalists an award was granted to was the Mesopotamia Agency (MA) reporter Cemil Uğur  for his story about two villagers thrown from a military helicopter in the Çatak district of Van.

Our reporter Cemil Uğur was granted the 'Rafet Genç News Award' for his main report and his reports following the main story. Regarding the award, ÇGD said: "While Turkey have gone through a lot of change in the last 40 years, something have never changed. The Kurdish problem is one of these issues which determines our social peace. The Kurdish problem that have gone worse and became gangrenous over the years have been the subject of different discussions focusing on the solution, but no results have been obtained.

HE FOLLOWED THE STORY TO THE END

Last year, "security policies" were the dominant approach and in this context, military operations were carried out by the state security units inside and outside of the country. One of these operations was the operation in the Çatak district of Van where Servet Turgut, a civillian, lost his life while Osman Şiban was heavily injured. These two citizens were detained by the soldiers and their relatives could not learn their whereabouts for two days. After two days, the two villagers were found in the hospital. Cemil Uğur from Mesopotamia Agency announced this fact with a report called 'They turned up at the hospital two days after being detained. Cemil Uğur followed the story to the end and obtained the hospital report proving that the two men have fallen from a height. While Servet Turgut lost his life in the hospital, the fact that the two men might have been dropped from the helicopter came to the agenda.

PRESS PROBLEM ADDS TO THE KURDISH PROBLEM

4 journalists were arrested as a result of the story including Cemil Uğur and were held in prison for 6 months. The report of these journalists showed that a 'press problem' was added to the 'Kurdish problem'. The incident about the two villagers and these journalist could not find itself a place in the pro-government media. Cemil Uğur is granted the Rafet Genç News Award for giving us an isnight of what happened against all kinds of dangers he faced."
