ÊLIH - During the protest against the trustees in Êlih, DBP Êlih Provincial Co-Chair Resul Çetin said: "We do not accept any decision that ignores the will of the people."

Reactions against the appointment of trustees to municipalities continued today in Êlih (Batman). The mass gathered in front of the Human Rights Monument on Gülistan Street and protested against the trustees. Êlih Municipality Co-Mayor Yeşil Işık, as well as many names from civil society organisations and political parties participated in the statement. DEM Party Êlih Provincial Co-Chair Mustafa Mesut Tekik, pointing out that a trustee was appointed to Dêrsim last time, said: "There will be a campaign to Dêrsim, but there will be no victory".

'AKP-MHP HAS NO LEGITIMACY LEFT'

Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Êlih Provincial Co-Chair Resul Çetin said that the trustee appointments is an usurpation of will. Noting that they do not accept any decision that ignores the will of the people, Çetin said: "The AKP-MHP government, which deepens its enmity against the Kurdish people in order to prevent political exhaustion, continues to insist on ignoring the will of the people. With the trustee decision, Dêrsim's multicultural and multilingual understanding of life, religious values and historical memory are wanted to be punished."

Çetin said: "This decision also targets the law of component and alliance, which is based on the will of the people in Dêrsim and defends the future of democracy and freedoms. The attempt to punish Dêrsim, whose history is full of resistance against oppression and oppression and which has never bowed down, with these methods and targeting its will will not yield results today as it did in the past. The AKP-MHP government, which is trying to extend its political life through will usurpation, has no legitimacy in the eyes of the people."

CO-MAYOR SYSTEM IS TARGETED

Noting that the co-presidency system is targeted by the government, Çetin said: "The trustee regime is also the enemy of women's gains. We will continue to vitalise our democratic ecological women's libertarian governance approach with our philosophy of 'jin, jiyan, azadî (Woman, life, freedom)'. The trustee policies are a political coup and we will not accept those who do not accept and ignore the will of the people. What is essential for us is the will of the people, and we will continue our democratic struggle against every understanding that opposes this will. In this context, we call on all our people and democratic mass organisations to protect the elected will of the people for the future of democracy and freedoms. If there is a power that will determine the future of Dêrsim, it is the will of the people of Dêrsim."

The statement ended with the slogans "Pressures cannot deter us" and "Bijî berxwedana Batmanê (Long live resistance of Batman)".
