ISTANBUL - In this week's demonstration, Saturday Mothers demanded the fate of Hüseyin Taşkaya, who was disappeared 31 years ago by soldiers in Sêwereg, and demanded that the perpetrators be found.

Saturday Mothers/People organised the 1028th of their protests at Galatasaray Square to demand the fate of their relatives who were desappeared and murdered under custody and to demand the prosecution of the perpetrators. Saturday Mothers came together in the square with carnations and photographs of their disappeared relatives. Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK) Co-spokeperson Meral Danış Beştaş and many rights defenders attended the statement.

In this week's protest, Saturday Mothers asked for the fate of Hüseyin Taşkaya, who was detained by soldiers 31 years ago from his house in Sêwereg (Siverek) district of Riha and was never heard from again.

Speaking here, Taşkaya's daughter-in-law Ayşe Taşkaya said that Hüseyin Taşkaya, a contractor in Sêwereg, was 42 years old and father of 4 childre. Ayşe Taşkaya said that the district of Sêwereg was ruled by the tribe of Sedat Bucak, then deputy of the True Path Party (DYP), and that many violations of rights had taken place. Ayşe Taşkaya also noted that the security forces tended to hand over the operations in the region entirely to the Bucak tribe and that the armed members of the tribe had the appearance of a "state within the state".

"All attempts of the family were fruitless and Hüseyin Taşkaya was never heard from again. The Siverek Chief Public Prosecutor's Office did not fulfil its duty to investigate the incident and punish the criminals. It considered the detention of Hüeyin Taşkaya in the presence of his relatives and the entire neighbourhood as 'the abstract claim of the family' and decided not to prosecute the case. We remind once again on the 3st anniversary of his disappearance; Hüseyin Taşkaya's detention was not recorded. Until today, no information has been given about his fate and wereabouts. Those who lost Taşkaya were given the opportunity to hide their crimes, cover their tracks and escape responsibility."

'WE WILL NOT STOP DEMANDING JUSTICE'

Ayşe Taşkaya stated that they will demand justice for the disappeared and said: "In our 1028th week, we once again call on the judicial authorities: It is the duty of prosecutors and courts to uncover the truth about the disappearance of Hüseyin Taşkaya, to identify and punish the persons and organisations responsible for the crime. Fulfil this duty. No matter how many years pass, we will not stop demanding justice for Hüseyin Taşkaya and all our disappeared people, and we will not stop reminding that the state has to act within the universal norms of law."

The protest ended with the placing of carnations in the square.
