ISTANBUL - PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan's family and guardian applied to Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and İmralı Prison Directorate requesting a meeting.
The aggravated isolation of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and other prisoners Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in İmralı Type F High Security Prison continues. His brother Mehmet Öcalan and his guardian Mazlum Dinç have applied to Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and İmralı Prison Directorate requesting a meeting with Abdullah Öcalan.
Emine Konar, the sister of Ömer Hayri Konar, Polat Yıldırım, the brother of Hamili Yıldırım, and Melihe Çetin, the sister of Veysi Aktaş, also applied to the prosecutor's office and the prison directorate for a meeting.
Abdullah Öcalan and 3 other prisoners in İmralı are prevented from meeting with their families due to “disciplinary penalties”. Between 2021-2024, Abdullah Öcalan and other prisoners were given disciplinary penalties at least 8 times, 3 months each, and were prevented from meeting with their families. While the grounds and file numbers of the disciplinary penalties were not shared with the lawyers despite all the applications, the lawyers applied to Bursa Execution Judgeship in October and they were informed that a new 3-month “disciplinary penalty” was given to Abdullah Öcalan on October 16, 2024. No information on the reason for this “penalty” was shared. Lawyers will appeal against the decision.
FAMILY MEETING AFTER 4 YEARS
While the last face-to-face meeting with Abdullah Öcalan's family was held on March 3, 2020 and the last phone call was held on March 25, 2021, the last face-to-face meeting with his nephew Ömer Öcalan was held on October 23, 2024 after a 4-year break. During the meeting, Abdullah Öcalan underlined that the isolation still continues.
