ANKARA - Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç has spoken about the strip search imposed on university students arrested for protesting against the operation against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), "It is absolutely out of the question in our country" he claimed.

Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç made a statement on the arrests of university students who were arrested during protests agianst the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) operation.

Tunç rejected the strip search practices that the detainees were subjected to and said, "There is no such thing as an irregular search. Our legislation is clear. We have laws and regulations on the management of penal institutions. There are preactices carried out in accordance with the regulations. What some people refer to as 'strip search' is absolutely out of the question in our country. We cannot allow this. In order not to bring banned substances into prisons, if there is a suspicion, a detailed search has been authorised. While using this authorisation, special attention is paid to the privacy of the person. In this detailed search, a detailed search is carried out by taking precautions such as the privacy of the person, especially if a person of the same sex is searched, if he/she is given an extra outfit other than his/her clothes."

WILL MAHI·R POLAT BE RELEASED?

The question about IBB Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat, who is detained in Marmara Prison in Silivri within the scope of the investigation against IBB Minister Tunc said,
"Prisoners and convicts in penal execution institutions are entrusted to our state. They are met with all the means of the state. In the Criminal Procedure Code 109, it is clear how the necessary decisions will be made for those who cannot maintain their lives alone due to health conditions in prison. Here, a decision is made for the prisoner with a full-fledged hospital report and forensic medicine approval. Upon the continuation of his complaints, it was decided to refer him to forensic medicine after doctors' examinations. A decision is made according to the file."
