RIHA - Women demanded the release of Iranian Kurdish graphic designer Shahla Pirastah without being deported.

 

Shahla Pirastah, a graphic designer from Mahabad, Iran, who has been living in Amed (Diyarbakır) for about 8 years, is wanted to be deported. Riha Women's Platform held a press conference at Human Rights Association (IHD) Riha Branch and demanded the release of Shahla Pırastah from Urfa Repatriation Centre where she is being held.

 

Gül Fehime Binici, Co-Chair of Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD) Riha (Urfa) Branch, read the press statement on behalf of the women. Gül Fehime Binici stated that Shahla Pirastah applied to IHD Amed Branch on 16 December 2024 and emphasised the violations of rights that Shahla Pirastah faced. Gül Fehime Binici said: "Shahla Pirastah, for whom a deportation and administrative detention decision was taken by Diyarbakır II Directorate of Migration Management on 8 April without showing any decision to her lawyers, was transferred to Urfa Repatriation Centre on 10 April. He has been under administrative detention here for about 5 days and is facing deportation."

 

Stating that Shahla Pırastah had to leave her country due to the male-state violence in Iran, Gül Fehime Binici added: "Handing over Shahla Pirastah, a woman painter and graphic designer who struggled to survive in Iran, then came to Turkey and continued her struggle here, to the misogynist Iranian regime is to support the genocide of women. If she is sent to Iran, she will be left to die and will face violations of her rights, especially her right to life. Although Iran's misogynist and inhumane practices are known, insisting on keeping her under administrative detention for the purpose of deportation may cost the life of another woman. The authorities should give up this treatment that does not protect women and does not act in accordance with international law, and release Shahla Pirastah immediately."
