RIHA - Emrecan Demir, an ill prisoner held in Samsun Kavak S-Type Closed Prison, stated in a meeting with his family that he was not referred to hospital despite his eye disease and allergic reactions, and that the prison infirmary doctor refused to prescribe his medication.
Emrecan Demir is held in Samsun Kavak S-Type Closed Prison and he was not referred to a hospital despite his repeated petitions due to his eye discomfort and allergic reactions in his body. In his weekly phone call with his family, Demir stated that he was not referred to a doctor in the prison infirmary despite his requests and petitions.
On the other hand, the infirmary doctor refused to prescribe medication for Demir's treatment.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Demir was arrested in Antalya in 2016 and sentenced to 50 times heavy life imprisonment. Demir was transferred from Antalya L-Type Prison to Eskişehir H-Type Prison in 2020. Demir was put in a solitary cell in the corridor where judicial detainees were held, as there were no political wards there. After his appeals against isolation failed to yield any results, Demir was transferred to Samsun Kavak S-Type Prison on 5 December 2024. Demir continued to be held under similar conditions of isolation.
Demir was transferred to Samsun Kavak S Type Prison against his will and was placed in a single cell in the corridor where judicial detainees are held. An investigation was initiated against Demir for refusing strip searches in the prison he was brought to, and he stated that he was subjected to insults, swearing and threats from judicial detainees during his weekly phone calls with his family. On the other hand, it was revealed that he was asked for 5 thousand TL cargo fee for his belongings sent from the prison he was transferred to.
