NEWS CENTER – Former İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer is among 99 individuals referred to the court with a request for arrest. Reacting to the situation Soyer said: "There is not a single question in our case file that lacks an answer."
As part of the investigation into the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, 119 people were detained during home raids on July 1 and referred to court earlier today. Of those, 99 have now been referred to the court with a request for formal arrest.
Among those facing potential arrest are former İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer and CHP İzmir Provincial Chair Şenol Aslanoğlu.
The detainees face charges related to corruption and irregularities. It was reported that 20 individuals were released from the Financial Crimes Division without being referred to court.
'NOT A SINGLE QUESTION IN OUR CASE WITHOUT ANSWER
After arrest warrant Soyer made a statement on his virtual media account following his referral to court. “We have been in custody for four days due to an unjust, unlawful, so-called operation. At the police department, I answered all the questions posed to us with full transparency. Today, together with my friends, we will seek justice at the courthouse,” Soyer said.
He continued: “Let me repeat: there is not a single question in our case file that lacks an answer. There is only public service, love for our country, and a passion for İzmir. Those who know us, know who we are. Those who don’t, judge us by their own standards. Today, my only expectation, for myself, my friends, and for Turkey, is justice, rule of law, and fairness!”
