Hakkari Governership made a written statement regarding the death of 14 year old Vedat Ekinci in Derecik, Hakkari. The statement said Ekinci died as a result of the richocheting 'warning fire'.

 

The statement made by the Governer's Office is as follows: "On 01.08.2019, our border troops warned the people trying to cross our borders illegaly on a road used by terror organizations located 2 kilometers to our Derecik border.However, warning fires were made to the people who were moving to our border by Northern Iraq not following the warning.As the region is rugged and rocky, a ricochet bullet caused 1 of our citizens to be injured. Our wounded citizen was taken to Derecik Sahara Hospital with the vehicles belonging to our Border Units at the scene and unfortunately lost his life despite all the interventions. It is announced to the public with respect. ”
