DIYARBAKIR - Pointing out that the coronavirus epidemic causes fear and panic in the states as well as in societies, Psychologist Mehmet Serif Akbas said, "If the states cannot cope with the epidemic, the necessity of their existence will be questioned."

Coronavirus (Covid- 19) in Turkey as well as the world continues to spread. With the epidemic, countries started to isolate themselves in, and close their borders. The schools are closed, transportation services stopped, shops are closed and a new wave of unemployment came.

Mehmet Şerif Akbaş, Co-spokesperson for the Mesopotamian Psychologists Initiative, Diyarbakır, made evaluations regarding the psychological problems that citizens may face in this process.

PEOPLE ARE MADE TO CHOSE

Stating that uncertainty and fear have become widespread with the epidemic and this works in two ways, Akbaş stated that the first is unemployment and  anxiety for one's future and the other one is the fear caused by the virus. Emphasizing that people are forced to choose between these two, Akbaş pointed out the situation of the people who have to work and said: "Therefore," stay at home "campaigns do not give much of a result."

'THE NECESSITY OF THE STATES WILL BE QUESTIONED'

Emphasizing that new security policies have emerged with the increase of the cases, Akbaş said: "Just like the process we have experienced caused fear and panic in individuals, it also caused a panic in the states as well. Because the state itself can become meaningless in this process. If the states can not cope with the outbreak, the necessity of their existance will be questioned. The time we have to cope with the virus will be determined by the states. And it is a possibility that it may relapse. The panic experienced by individuals, will be experience by the states too."
