ANKARA - HDP Labour Commission made a statement regarding the May 1 Labour Day and said: "To create a new life, we will raise our struggle in our homes, balconies, streets, hospital yards, factories with marches and slogans, we will stop life and celebrate May Day."

 

Peoples 'Democratic Party (HDP) Labor Commission issued a written statement due to the International Labour Day. In the statement published under the signature of Deputy Chairman of the Labor Commission Şaziye Köse, it was said: "We will take our own fate into our own hands with solidarity, by giving each other hands, by weaving networks within ourselves. We are everywhere on May 1 to build a new life."

 

The statement said: "The people of the world and Turkey faces this May Day during an epidemic with waves of attacks against the rights of the labourers, their freedoms, lives and democracy. We see that this May Day is experienced as a class struggle with the deepening of the economic crisis due to coronavirus. This crisis is not happening due to the outbreak, but capitalism. We were already going through an economic crisis, which was deepened by the outbreak. The governments prioritized the capital and ignored public health."

 

Those who work unregistered, with daily wages, those who don't have an income, women whose labour is being exploited, those who are left for dead with the new law on execution are objecting to this. Our choice is clear. We the labourers have to make a choice. We are at the cross roads.  Either our screams will be lost inside us, or we will unite our screams. We will take our own fate into our own hands with solidarity, by giving each other hands, by weaving networks within ourselves. We are everywhere on May 1 to build a new life. We will stop life tomorrow and celebrate the May Day."
