NEWS CENTER - Pointing out that there are many plans behind Turkey's contacts in Iraq and about a possible new attack, KNK Co-Chair Ahmed Karamus said: "Although it is said that the operation will be against the PKK, the target is four parts of Kurdistan."

Turkey's attacks on the Zap, Metina and Avaşin areas of the Federated Kurdistan Region on April 17, 2022, with the cooperation of the KDP, continue. Turkey, which settled in the region step by step with the police stations built in these areas and started to invade, has intensified its diplomatic traffic with the Baghdad and Hewlêr Governments in recent months for a new attack prepared with the intention of further expanding the occupied areas.

The last of these contacts, involving political and military officials, was established last week. Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler and National Security Organization (MIT) Undersecretary Ibrahim Kalın went to Baghdad and met with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hüseyin, Minister of Defense Muhammed el Abbasi, Undersecretary of National Security Kasım el Araci, Head of Hashd al-Shaabi Committee Falih al Feyyad, Federated Kurdistan and Minister of Internal Affairs Rebwar Ahmet and Iraqi Undersecretary of Communications.

At this security summit, held before AKP Chair and President Tayyip Erdoğan's visit to Iraq in April, it was revealed to the public that an agreement was reached between the Turkish, Iraqi and Federated Kurdistan administrations on the planned military operation in Medya Defense Zones and some other issues.

Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) Co-chair Ahmed Karamus evaluated the content and possible consequences of this agreement to MA.

KNK Co-Chair Ahmed Karamus stated that Turkey started to look for a partner in the invasion plan against Medya Defense Areas immediately after the talks in Astana.

Karamus said: “The meeting held between Turkey, Iran and Russia was a meeting about the situation of Kurdistan. The Turkish state received a meeting stating that there was an intervention to protect the security of its national borders. Now there are two important issues. One is the meeting in Astana and the other is Turkey's meetings with American officials. The Turkish state has a goal of carrying out a new operation. Turkey has identified many regions and is trying to occupy these regions. After the Astana meeting, there is no statement so far that Russia and Iran approved or supported such an operation. We cannot say anything clear about this. However, it seems that they reached an agreement on these issues at the meeting in Astana."

INTENTION TO LEGITIMATE WAR BY DRAWING IRAQ INTO WAR!

Stating that the Turkish state is trying to include the Iraqi Government in the war it started, Karamus said: "The aim of the Turkish state in these visits is to occupy and control a large part of Southern Kurdistan with an operation. Again, to separate Shengal and Rojava Kurdistan and complete the occupation. In this operation, Iraq and Kurdistan it wants the support of their governments. It will fight together with the KDP against the freedom fighters. It will make some moves to eliminate the freedom fighters. The purpose of the meeting held on March 14 is to involve Iraq in this war and to declare internationally that 'this operation is not an operation to occupy the lands of Iraq and Southern Kurdistan In fact, it wants to legitimize its war against the Kurds by including Iraq in the war. At the same time, it wants to influence the Arabs and even the Arab states by taking Iraq under its influence. However, Turkey's initiative is opposed by Iran. It is against the interests of Iran. We understand from the statements of some officials of the Iraqi government who oppose the occupation that an agreement could not be reached with Iran on this issue. There is such a paradox."

'IT IS CLEAR THAT SOME CONCESSIONS AND SOME OPPORTUNITIES WERE OFFERED'

Karamus also stated that Turkey reflects the content of the meetings with Iraqi officials differently to the public.

Pointing out that some figures from the Iraqi Government reacted seriously to Turkey's attacks on Federated Kurdistan, Karumus said: “The Turkish government spread this memorandum to the press as if the Iraqi government had declared the PKK an 'illegal organisation'. However, this is not the case. It is clear that the Turkish delegation offered some concessions and some opportunities to Iraq. One of these is the water issue, the second is the energy issue, and the third is logistics, that is, opening a trade line passing through Hewler and Duhok and connecting it directly to Iraq. Such an offer was made to Iraq. One of the goals of the Turkish state is to occupy the entire Southern Kurdistan by taking Baghdad under its influence and turning a large area into a buffer zone. The Turkish state wants Iraq to facilitate taking control of Mosul, Kirkuk and the Nineveh plain. However, in the coming days, the dissatisfaction of some figures in the central government and some segments of Iraq against this will become clearer and sharper. As far as we follow, the Arab press's evaluations of the memorandum of understanding are in this direction."

'KDP IS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF THE TURKISH STATE'

KNK Co-Chair also pointed out the silence that KDP has fallen into against Turkey's intention to invade this country.

Karamus said: "It seems that KDP is included in this war concept and they are preparing for this attack with the Turkish state. KDP has come under the influence of the Turkish state in every way and has no legitimacy left in the eyes of the Turkish state. The Turkish state implements whatever it imposes. But we will see in the coming days how much support Iraqi forces will give to the Turkish state. Because the Iraqi Government is not a homogeneous government. We know very well that Iran has influence over Iraq. Iran does not accept the Turkish state's major move into Iraq."

'THIS ATTACK WILL LIQUIDATE KDP!'

Stating that Turkey attacks wherever the Kurds have gains and status, Karamus underlined that, although the regional government is not aware of it, it actually wants to eliminate the existence, status and gains of Federated Kurdistan with the new attack on the region.

Karamus said: “This attack will also eliminate and liquidate the KDP. It will target Kurdish formations with all its means. When the guerrilla force is liquidated, it will also liquidate the Kurdish parties one by one. But it is clear that the KDP is on the side of the Turkish state and cannot show any attitude. If this cooperation takes place and yields results, there will be no Kurds left anywhere."

'SOME OF THE GANGS IN EFRIN WILL BE REMOVED TO THE REGION'

Karamus also shared that they have some information that Turkey is preparing to move some gang members under its control to Federated Kurdistan before the operation it is preparing for. Karamus said: “The Turkish state deployed some of its forces to the region. Until today, it was publicly mentioned that the Turkish army had 85 bases in the Kurdistan region, but now they are talking about 110 bases. There are very serious and strong allegations that many of the ISIS gangs under Turkey's control have moved them to Southern Kurdistan. We also know that preparations are being made to shift some of the invading gangs in Afrin to Bashur."

'A NATIONAL STANCE MUST BE DEVELOPED'

Stating that the attack that Turkey is preparing for may start after Ramadan, Karamus said: “This war will not be like the wars of the past. It will be a more comprehensive war and the cost will be much higher. The involvement of a Kurdish force in this war will create a different situation. These plans and preparations are aimed at the genocide of the Kurds. If this operation is successful, there will be no Kurds left. Nobody must be deceived. Although it is said that this operation will be against a force or the PKK, this is not true. The target of the occupying states is four parts of Kurdistan. We warn our people and Kurdish institutions and organizations to participate in a national mobilization from now on. We need to develop a national stance. Otherwise, the gains of the Kurds will be destroyed."
