ERZIROM - Stating that the pressures in Erzurum Dumlu Prison No. 2 have increased and solitary confinement of prisoners has increased, prisoner Kamuran Daşdemir called for sensitivity to rights, civil society and democratic mass organizations.
Kamuran Daşdemir, who was arrested in Agîri (Ağrı) in 2022 on the allegation of "being an illegal organization member", conveyed the rights violations he experienced in Erzurum Dumlu Closed Prison No 2 in a phone call with his family. According to his family, Daşdemir stated that the pressures in prison have increased and called on human rights organizations, non-governmental organizations and democratic mass organizations to show sensitivity to their situation. During the meeting, Daşdemir stated that they were frequently physically attacked and that water and electricity were frequently cut off in the prison, which had a negative impact on their lives.
PRISONERS ARE GIVEN SOLITARY CONFINEMENT
Kamuran Daşdemir emphasised that as the isolation in İmralı deepens, the spread to other prisons is harsh. Daşdemir said: "In this last process, they are disregarding the most basic rights. They cut off water, electricity, prevent communication, telephone and meeting rights. Recently, their televisions have been confiscated, prisoners' clothes are constantly changed and prisoners are put in cells. They want to increase the pressure and separate the prisoners. We call on human rights associations and organisations to raise these pressures and rights violations."
CALL TO RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS
Rumet Dursun, a member of Kamuran Daşdemir's family, stated that pressures have increased in Dumlu Prison in recent days and that a policy is being carried out not only against their prisoners but against all prisoners. Dursun called on human rights organizations and said that they want to hear the voice of the prisoners through democratic institutions.
