ANKARA - DEM Party Ankara Women's Assembly protested in front of the Iranian Embassy against the death sentence given to journalist Pakshan Azizi and demanded her release.

Ankara Women's Assembly of Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) protested the death sentence given by Iran to journalist Pakshan Azizi with a statement in front of the Iranian Embassy. DEM Party Ankara Provincial co-chair Tatlıgül Gül said that the Iranian mullah regime targets women by imposing death penalty on them unlawfully. Tatlıgül Gül stated that Iran has committed a crime.

She said, "Pakshan Azizi has been the target of this regime only because she is a woman, because she is Kurdish, because she defends women's rights and because she announces the truth to the world as a journalist."

Underlining that the attacks against the gains of women in North and East Syria continue, Tatlıgül Gül said, "The women's struggle for freedom in Rojava inspires the whole world. However, this resistance has also become the target of their enemies. Members of the Zennubiya Women's Community lost their lives in the increasing attacks on women in North and East Syria. The cruelest face of war manifests itself in the bodies of women. We see these attacks as a threat not only against the freedom struggle of women in Rojava but also against the freedom of women all over the world."

Tatlıgül Gül demanded that the death sentence given to Pakshan Azizi be overturned immediately. "The death sentence given to Pakshan Azizi must be overturned immediately and these crimes against women must stop. It is not a crime to fight for women's rights, to demand equality and freedom. The fact that this fascist mullah regime continues to impose the death penalty poses a great danger to the lives of women. We will raise our voices all over the world against the torture of political women prisoners in Evin Prison," Tatlıgül Gül said.

Tatlıgül Gül emphasised that the death penalty is a crime against humanity and said, "Pakshan Azizi must be released immediately. Imposing a punishment such as death penalty is a crime against humanity and remaining silent about it is also a crime."
